Sam Anthony Daleo Sr. grew up in a 10-block triangular section of Madison, Wis., known as the Italian Greenbush or the “Bush.” It was largely populated by Sicilian immigrants, like his own parents, who came from Palermo, Sicily. The immigrants planted gardens and fruit trees everywhere there was space, which likely is why the area was dubbed the Bush. This book records some of the author's recollections and memories of the Bush, including two horrific family tragedies. The Bush existed from 1900 to 1960, when it was destroyed by urban renewal.
