About the Book
This is a photo book commemorating my time abroad in Florence, Italy during the Spring semester of 2014. The name of this book originates from the blog of the same name that I kept during my time abroad, with "Firenze" being the Italian translation of "Florence." The photos in this book showcase the architecture and artistic details found throughout the city, as well as everyday Florentine life.
Florence is the capital and most populous city of the region of Tuscany. It is best known for its reputation as the birthplace of the Renaissance and a flourishing city of the arts throughout the 14th to 16th centuries. This history is still apparent today, as strolling down the streets of Florence is almost equivalent to entering a time machine, with original art and architecture from this period everywhere you turn. The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, more informally known as the Duomo, towers above the city, topped by Brunelleschi's architectural masterpiece of a dome. Michelangelo's David is housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia and Botticelli's Birth of Venus in the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most acclaimed art museums in the world. Other famed individuals who called Florence home include Machiavelli, Dante, Galileo, da Vinci, and the Medici family, whose symbol is emblazoned throughout the walls of the city. From walking across the Ponte Vecchio to gazing down at the city from above at Piazzale Michelangelo, one will always experience the beauty and history that is Florence.
