About the Book
Photography teachers Joan Gallant Dooley at Humanitas Academy of Art and Technology, East Los Angeles, Kelly Clark Moncure at Rancho Buena Vista High School in San Diego, Ca, Nereida Lansman at San Luis High School in San Luis AZ, Joe Medina at Harvard Westlake School in Los Angeles, along with established photographers and other high school students from around the world challenge themselves and their students to look at something deeper, to use the language of smartphone photography to reveal more about ourselves, to show, as the name implies, something about our lives, dreams, culture, and community, something that goes beyond reality using ourself as the main subject. The aim was to inspire a feeling of community amongst our visual arts and photography students across geographic and cultural boundaries with hopes that eventually we can develop projects that establish learning opportunities where students think and act globally as well as locally. The project also aims to encourage students to respond to artistic challenges that will push their creative and technical boundaries and share their work with a larger audience.
