Burley in the Bluegrass is a chronological look at a typical burley tobacco farming operation in Kentucky. David Schumacher uses his digital camera to show how Campbell County farmer Allan Seiter tends to 20 acres of tobacco from the pre-planting stages in March until the cured leaves are taken to market in December and January. The final product becomes one of the key ingredients in premium cigarettes.
David Schumacher has spent 17 years working for daily newspapers in Kentucky and Ohio. His interest in tobacco farming dates back to his years growing up on East Second Street in Maysville, Ky., where tobacco warehouses were located on just about every corner. This is David's first book, with hopefully more to come.
