About the Book
Why do we always feel the need to buy a key chain or a t-shirt from every place that we visit? What purpose do these small, cheap trinkets serve? Where do they come from, and how did they all end up there? This book investigates the origins and the material goods and souvenirs of the tourism industry and the impact that they have on local economies and cultures. As it turns out, the commodification and mass production of these once culturally sacred items may be doing more harm than good to local cultures and economies.
