This collection of 32 black and white photographs by Nicholas Steiner records impressions and memories of travels throughout Europe: the close up view of a gnarled wooden doorway in Lisbon's Alfama district, cows in single file returning to their barn in Bavaria, a lone figure on the streets of wintry Basel, Switzerland or rainy Paris, two lovers locked in embrace in a nearly deserted city square in the Czech Republic, to name but a few.
Nicholas Steiner, a German-born, self-taught photographer began taking black & white pictures during his teens in post war Europe. Some of these old images remain his favorites. Subsequent decades allowed time for travel and further development of photographic skills. These pictures reflect Steiner's interest in many, diverse subjects.
