About the Book
Fiberglass Frontier explores the phenomena of simulated history within American theme parks. Simulation has become a popular entertainment venue as well as an accepted exhibition tool for museums and historical sites. The existence of themed restaurants, shopping centers, and housing developments is now so commonplace it has become easy to overlook. The theme park itself is the most exaggerated of these spaces. It obscures itself from the outside world, discouraging comparison to reality. Further, it promotes its own legitimacy by fusing real histories into its artificial environment. This project documents eight major theme parks, cataloging how history, myth, and entertainment coexist within the fiberglass frontier.
