Remains of the two-thousand-year old Roman villas (Carthage), temples and amphitheatres (Dougga) and the third largest colosseum built by the Romans (El-Jem); a substantial piece of the Sahara and oases lush with date palms, vegetable gardens and pomegranate trees (Tozeur, Douz, Gabes); surreal terrain fit for film shooting for Star Wars (Matmata); fishing villages (Mahdia, Monastir, Bizerte), and tourist beaches of Jerba Island, known in the legends as the island of lotus-eaters where Ulysses's men decided to settle down; charming hilltop coastal towns on the Mediterranean Sea in the north (Sidi Bou Said); historical Islamic pilgrimage sites (Kairouan); colorful and mysterious medinas and modern and progressive cities (Tunis and Sfax) -- the relatively small nation of Tunisia offers the visitor an impressive variety of history, landscape and culture, all lovingly photographed and presented here by Arvind Garg.
