About the Book
Portfolio: Art Myers—A Quarter Century of Photographs presents the heart of Myers’ image making. The first half of the book, “The Family of Women,” is poignantly introduced by the nationally influential arts writer Leah Ollman. The photographs document women coping with life-altering adversities whose misfortunes are frequently spoken about only in hushed tones—HIV, cancer, homelessness. Myers approaches his subjects with knowledge and understanding and with the sensitivity of a caring physician. In Portfolio’s second half, “Beyond The Family of Women,” Myers presents a potpourri of more traditional subjects—sometimes seriously and other times humorously. And without apology, he focuses his camera on the beauty and grace of the human body.
