For more than 20 years, photographer Richard Nilsen has made "books" of photographs of gardens he has visited, often the back yards of friends, and has bundled them together in sets of from 15-50 sequenced images. Here is a selection from 15 of those collections from private and public gardens from around the U.S., Canada and France.
Richard Nilsen was art critic for The Arizona Republic in Phoenix, Ariz., for 25 years. He was also the classical music critic, the dance critic, the opera critic, the architecture critic and the backup movie critic. He has written for every section of the newspaper except the Business section. He has been a photographer for more than 40 years. Now retired, he lives in the Blue Ridge.
