Despite years of economic hardship, Romania is fast becoming one of eastern Europe's great final frontiers. Its wealth of National Geographic-quality landscapes - from the rolling hills of Transylvania to the tiny villages of Maramures - makes it a must-see for those in search of unspoiled natural beauty. Equally dazzling are its majestic castles, medieval towns, and its centuries-old churches and monasteries.
Romania: A Visual Journey provides a glimpse of some of the country's amazing sights, both natural and man-made. It aims to give you a taste of long-gone medieval times, as well as proof that it has indeed entered the 21st century, with all that that brings. It hopes to inspire you to visit this vibrant and diverse country before the pressures of modernization and technology begin to chip away at its essence and tourist appeal.

This is a collection of striking images capturing a way of life which remains essentially medieval in spite of the eras of capitalism and communism. The variety of perspectives makes me feel I am present. Readers, look at these images before economic development wipes out a civilization.
