About the Book
Guanajuato, founded in 1559, is perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. Its distinctive location, perched in a narrow valley atop a mountain range rising to over 7,800 ft. above sea level has crafted a remarkably compact, yet walkable city. Roaming through its cobblestone streets, alleyways and staircases I was taken with the vibrancy of color spread among its houses and buildings – there are no architectural covenants to follow here, and every imaginable color is on display. Fuchsia, saffron yellow, lime green, cerulean and baby blue, mix with a gritty realness, transforming this city into a mural at every turn.
The city is also abundant with tree-lined plazas and stunning examples of civil and religious architecture; but it is the vibrancy of its face, and the character imposed among its imperfections that have struck me the most. It is with that perspective that I have focused my camera.
