About the Book
Rephotography is the act of repeat photography of the same site, with a time lag between the two images; a "then and now" view of a particular area. Some are casual, usually taken from the same view point but without regard to season, lens coverage or framing. Some are very precise and involve a careful study of the original image.
Toronto Before offers a view of the City of Toronto’s history mixed in with what is seen today. These then and now photographs combine the old with the new. The blending of two images gives a unique insight into how things have changed, how things could have been were some changes never made, and a general feel for the past while keeping the present in perspective.
