About the Book
This book is a collection of photographs from a one year project to document the Sydney Ocean Pools from Palm Beach in the north to Malabar in the south. There is so much diversity in these pools which range from rock holes that have simply had a post and chain border erected, to purpose-built 50 metre racing pools. As well as providing a safe place for children and families to swim, competitive swimming has also been developed here. The Australian crawl for example, which is now more commonly known as freestyle, was first developed as an early racing stroke by these rock pool swimmers.
