About the Book
TORMENTI AMOR is a series of photographs that is inspired by five female characters in opera and whose tragic lives of love and loss display themselves on the stage through decorative costume and even more ornate song.
Inspired by the stories and aesthetics of opera, each heroine is portrayed in a studio setting, her own stage if you like; and her inevitable demise and vulnerability is suggested through the constructed set that surrounds each character; tin foil stars hang by nylon thread for the Queen of the Night, Alcina’s magic island is a fragile den of colourful plastic, the moon that Rusalka sings to desperately for her mortal lover is made of nothing more than paper.
