About the Book
Architect of Dreams chronicles the life''s work of surreal artist and writer Dave Martsolf from its earliest beginnings in 1975 to 2015. Martsolf discusses his development of Rational Surrealism as a philosophical alternative to Andre Breton's original Surrealist Manifesto of Irrational Surrealism in the 1920's. Martsolf's artistic and metaphysical writings invite the audience to question reality using the tools of the superego and logical intelligence so that new worlds of positive possibility emerge for the inquiring mind.
Writing under the pen name Lara Fang, Emma Martsolf has been Dave Martsolf's wife since 2006 . No one knows Martsolf's art or its underpinnings and emotional meaning better than her. Drawing on extensive interviews and conversations that took place over many years leading up to their marriage and after it Emma (Fang Ping in her native China) has gained a unique perspective to Martsolf's work. Born in Tianjin, China, Emma attended Jilin University in Changchun City, Jinlin province, where she obtained a B.S. in Semiconductor Physics in 1993. She emigrated to the United States in 2006 with her daughter to reside in New Hampshire. Her background in mathematics and the physical sciences is a perfect adjunct and complement to the bridge between the physical and metaphysical worlds Martsolf has always strived to experience and describe in his artistic work. With her own solid roots in the worlds of the measureable, Emma is best suited to bring an understanding of Martsolf's dreamsca
