About the Book
The cover of journal is from a series of four self-portraits, staged and photographed in William and Jane Morris' former homes (with Hein van Liempd). Referring back to Jane Morris’ life story, I transformed her environment into my own, adopting contemporary clothing and poses. I have created this role for myself in order to complement and modernise her persona. The series was exhibited in the William Morris Gallery from 11 January till 9 March 2014 to celebrate the century of Jane Morris' death.

Imagine discovering a double from another century. In 2004, it happened to me, a Dutch artist (born 1975). I was given this photograph of Jane Morris (1839-1914), and at first glance I thought I was seeing myself. This discovery of my double led to the project ‘Reflections on Jane Morris’ in 2009. Since, I have been working with photographs, collages, drawings, paintings, text and sound.
