About the Book
Gauloise Blues is the first-hand account of Rachel Spreiregen, a French Jewish girl born in Paris in 1926 who found herself orphaned in 1941. It tells how she saved her younger sister and herself from deportation and death, and the collaboration, accomodation, and resistance she witnessed during the dark years of France's Occupation by the Nazis.
