About the Book
This book documents the process involved in creating Pile, Pipe I. This simple piece demonstrates an urge I had to create works using a piece of broken clay pipe I recovered from the banks of the Water of Leith in Edinburgh. It occurred to me when I found it lying amongst the shallows how intriguing a pipe can be, I am often arrested by thoughts of wonder and puzzlement at pipes that seem to do nothing yet are or were obviously in place for a reason. This piece, the first in a series, is a reaction to this feeling but also to the spontaneity of the finding and reacting to a particular object or material.
