About the Book
This book was made possible by the contributions of family stories, photographs and the experiences of those who joined the Australian War Memorial’s battlefield tour of 2008.
The tour was led by Nick Fletcher, a Senior Curator from the Australian War Memorial. We commenced with a visit to the site of the D Day landings. We then travelled to the historic sites of the Western Front where we walked the ground retracing the journey of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in the First World War from France through to Belgium, and then onto London.
The AIF fought on the Western Front from March 1916 till armistice on 11 November, 1918. The year 2008 commemorates 90 years since the end of the war.
