About the Book
The idea was pretty simple. Ask people from all over the world to go out and shoot one photo, on one particular day (February 15th 2009). I really had no expectation as to the final result – would I receive a bunch of poorly lit and badly composed photos, shoot with a cheap cell-phone? Or would I get a selection of finely crafted photos fit for framing by professional photographers? I got both – and neither.
Truly, the project became global. Men and women from all corners of the world – from Hong Kong to South Africa, Denmark to New Zealand, Russia to the USA - went out and took photos (some took a whole lot) of the world they live in. And it is thought-provoking to see just how different our lives are.
Even though this was meant as purely a photo project, I must express how surprised I was to find that the small blurbs (pieces of text) describing what the picture meant to the creator is what made this book so much more than I could ever have hoped for. Nor even imagined! I am so very proud to have been part of the One World - One Day - One Photo 2009.
