About the Book
One of the biggest fireworks festivals in the world, at Christmas in Remedios (Cuba), two camps battle it out for hours on end, upping the ante until, at last, the camps run out of ammo in the early hours of the morning.
A veritable war zone, no security measures whatsoever, a thick flow of Cubans marching around the town square, singing, chanting, defying the fire and the opponent.
The relentless party punctuated by sirens, canons blasts, and monstrous salvos of rockets. The hysteria that ensues, the frenzy of people defying the danger, trying to be one with the fire, like flies to the light.
Truly one of the most intense nights of my life.
