A PEAR A DAY
June 10, 2005 to June 9, 2006 About Painting and Pears Blog
by Marie-Louise McHugh
I am not a writer but have kept journals for most of my life. Several years ago, well before starting my blog www.ateliermchugh.blogspot.com, I started a "Pear Journal" consisting of drawings of pears whose "personalities" or "poses" illustrated what had happened to me on that particular day. As a narrative painter, this vehicle to express myself fit me perfectly.
Then came the internet and the blog. I seized this new medium and here is the result: a daily drawing or painting for 365 days.
Most of this work is graphite on paper, some oils or acrylics on canvas, also gouache on paper.
Born and raised in Switzerland, Marie-Louise McHugh moved to the USA in 1970. Over the years her paintings have been exhibited extensively in galleries, museums and universities in the Northeast of the USA, as well as Florida. They are part of corporate and private collections in the USA, Canada, Switzerland and Hong Kong.
