About the Book
'Birds of Sanibel Island' is a book of pictures, presenting 170 photographs of 33 species of bird found on Sanibel Island off the Gulf Coast of Florida. Species include Pelicans, Spoonbills, Ibis, Anhinga, Ospreys, Terns, Shorebirds and many others.
The photographs were taken between 2005 and 2008, and show birds going about their daily lives. Pictures were taken in the 'Ding' Darling National Wildlife Refuge, in the Bailey Tract, on the Pond Apple Trail, in the area around the lighthouse and fishing pier, and on the Gulf Beaches.
Features & Details
I have been interested in nature since I was about eight when we used to have family picnics in the woods on Sundays. My interest in photography started a little later when I was given my first camera for Christmas - a Kodak Brownie 44A. I must have been ten or eleven. Combining nature and photography has taken some time and it was not until I bought a digital SLR in 2005 that, for me, this became a practical possibility. Whilst interested in all wildlife, my most frequent subjects are birds. I also have a fondness for reptiles and insects. I was fortunate to have three photographs of garden birds featured in 'Photography Monthly' magazine in May 2008. I am a member of the Natural World Photographic Society.
