Cotton was the piney woods attraction since the 1830's and the original cotton gin still stands serving as a large barn. The family group that patented the land in 1848 consist of James and Temperance Kemp Lewis and Neil and Nancy Kemp Walker. Along with their extended families, they created the roots of many South Webster Parish residents.
