About the Book
When photographer friends Liz Luse and Deb Downes shared with each other the images of their individual photographic journeys, something magical happened, or at least it felt that way. Though they never spoke about what they were photographing during the course of their projects, they ended up with numerous photos consisting of strong common threads of subject matter and/or meaning.
In time they saw how both their journeys embraced heritage and the need for positive changes in communities and their individual citizens. Excitement over their findings resulted in doing a photo exhibit and this photography book together. Their biggest hope is for it to inspire others to imagine their possibilities and go for whatever positively speaks to them the loudest.
For me photography is all about connection. I’m most attracted to images containing elements of a story that not only grab and hold my attention, but take up residence in my heart. As the books on my bookshelves and home décor speak of elective tastes, so does my photography. I get just as excited over capturing laundry flapping in a breeze as a breathtaking landscape. I hone in on people scenes that express human emotions; strengths and frailties. Historical places and details speak to me of stories of old that still resonate. The right blend of textures and colors leave me feeling like a kid given a much asked for gift and in some way played a significant role in the story I envisioned when I captured them.
