About the Book
I wanted the light to have its way in these photographs. The flash and long exposure leave a certain amount up to luck, out of my control, and to let my hope for a photograph lead me into the image blindfolded is a freeing feeling. Dusk and night bring out a level of inhibition and freedom that we don't experience during the day. There’s a surreal attitude we don as darkness comes on: it’s the time between scenes in a production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” a lightness of air and fancy, wild wheeling, fairy feeling, Bottom with the head of an ass. That duplicity of face, and the capering joy of the spotlight, is here.
