"Character is what you are in the dark."
A collection of photographs exploring the hidden spaces of Carleton College, Character in the Dark illustrates the unusual writings, artwork, and scenery from a side of campus most students never have the chance to see.
From basement electrical vaults to secret side rooms, attic crawlspaces to the now-closed tunnel network, the book embodies the strange juxtaposition of industrial machinery and abandoned artifacts embedded in every part of the school. Through samples of poetry, artwork, and graffiti it conveys some of the history and unique identity of student life at Carleton.
