This book is a collection of pictographs, native Amer-
ican rock paintings from the Canadian Shield country of the Quetico-Superior region. Quetico Provincial Park is located just north of the BWCA and US border.
Agawa Rock is in Lake Superior Provincial Park. These ancient, mystic signs were paint on the granite cliffs some two to five hundred years ago, or older, with red ocher and fish oil as the binder. The picto- graphs can have several categories of meanings ranging from totems and religious rituals to seasonal star charts. The Hegman Lake site in northern Minn-
esota (not featured in this book) is interpreted to be representation of the the constellation we call Orion.
With this book I wish to fill the gap with some of the pictographs threatened by natural weathering and by man-made causes, such as acid rain.
