About the Book
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The competition launched on March 27th, 2009, and challenged people of all ages to take a photo (min 1024 x 768 pixels) that captured what 'Ashford Best Placed in Britain' meant to them.
The entries were separated into three age groups - Under 12s, 12 to 17, and 18 & Over – and displayed on the Ashford's Future website (www.ashfordbestplaced.co.uk) for the world to see and comment on.
A shortlist of the five best photos from each age group was selected by an independent judging panel, and put to the public vote online and through the local press.
The winners were announced on Wednesday 27th May. Prizes for the winners included:
• Tickets to Paris or Brussels with
Eurostar
• £300 worth of photographic vouchers
• A family photo shoot
• A day’s work experience with a
professional photographer
All photos submitted may also be used in future marketing and promotional material for both Ashford’s Future and Ashford Borough Council.
ASHFORD’S FUTURE
Ashford is now the fastest
growing town between London and the Continent, with population set to double in size over the next 25 years.
As one of the country’s four major growth areas under the Government’s Sustainable Communities Plan, a £2.5 billion investment programme of Government and private sector funding is planned to create 31,000 homes and 28,000 jobs by 2031.
Ashford’s growth and regeneration is overseen by the Ashford's Future Partnership, a team of local government and other public and private sector bodies responsible for ensuring the town develops in a sustainable way.
The Ashford’s Future Company Ltd was set up to work with public and private sector partners to drive key projects forward, particularly in the town centre, and to
co-ordinate the ambitious development programme.
The brand, ‘Ashford Best Placed in Britain’, carries the powerful message that with its great transport links, shopping, leisure facilities and commercial opportunities, Ashford really is best placed to live, work, visit and do business.
