About the Book
A series that documents the artist's pornography. Volume 1 illustrates the first eight magazines via a flat-bed scanner. This may look like pure appropriation but the artist's fingers, hands, and other parts make their way in from the edges. Clary says, "These books evoke scrapbooks I made as a boy. My father only had a few Penthouse magazines hidden away in his closet. Without him knowing I would slice a page out, one at a time over months to make a secret masturbation books. But as my book grew his thinned, and I was so afraid of being caught, I threw the book in the fireplace. This was just the first of many books I made and burned as a young adult. It became a ritual of saving and trashing." The artist asks each reader to burn their copy.
