About the Book
Our design for this cookbook started with deciding on common ailments with specific symptoms that we could then design dishes around. Each dish would feature one or more key ingredients
that could alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms. In the end we would research studies that could support the claims for our choices.
For our categories of common ailments we focused on Colds, Digestion, Joint pain & Inflammation, Mood & Sleep, and Women’s Health. Within each category we decided on three recipes that would have key ingredients to help alleviate symptoms associated with each ailment.
The method for researching information for this project started with our own knowledge of herbs, spices and ingredients. We both come from backgrounds that supported some knowledge of “health through food” and we used this as a starting point. From there we did internet searches for ingredients that supported our initial ideas. Sometimes the research guided us into a new direction by introduce us new ingredients and their medicinal properties. We then further our research by looking into scientific studies and resources for our key ingredients.
Some of our recipes come from research. Others come from modifying the ones we already know. We began the cooking process after finishing writing our recipes. We each focused on cooking specific recipes that we liked. We were able to follow our recipes easily. In the end we felt the result of our recipes were a success and we were able to sample each other’s dishes.
