A brilliant look at a world I barely knew existed. Dan, you effectively capture the derbys' "preposterous assault on the senses." ( Adele Brown's introduction is perceptive and beautifully written.) One can almost smell the smoke and raw gasoline, hear the sound of metal on metal, and watch people passionately involved in what is almost a religious ritual. It's a frightening book.
