'joys of the cut sleeve' is a collection of poems about male love. In ancient Chinese literature, there are numerous references to the passions of the "cut sleeve" and the "half-eaten peach", alluding to a tradition of male love that was accepted and well-established at that time—that is, until Westerners arrived. Bret Hinsch explores the male homosexual tradition in China in his book, 'Passions of the Cut Sleeve' (1992: University of California Press).
