About the Book
In response to the question: In what ways can experimental photography re-present mental illness? as part of a practice-led Honours research project, this monograph presents the significant discoveries resulting imagery produced in this research. With a background in photography, interest in eastern philosophical aesthetics and inspired by the presence of Bipolar within a family context - this body of work presents the way Artist & Author Isabelle Osborne sees the central subject - being mental illness outside a stigmatised and cliched context. Rather than deem it as a 'disorder' that sits as a supplement to mental 'health' or 'normality', Osborne presents Bipolar as she sees it, an obscure form of 'beauty'.
