About the Book
This book is an exploration of diverse and complex life of Cleveland Jewish Community, one of the oldest in the USA. I documented Jewish stories of the very devout and of those who are not religious, but have a strong Jewish identity.
All my subjects were asked the same question: “What makes you Jewish?” Some had an instant answer; others needed to think about it and came back to me with their replies weeks later.
The premise of this work is that there is indeed a distinctive Jewish culture that can be captured and photographed, but I found that there is no one single way that Jews think or look. My exploration of Jewish experience reveals various possibilities rather than similarities.
