About the Book
The hero is commonly the simplest and most obscure of men.
A selection of photographs from Erin Thomas taken on scene and in training with the Berwick Maine Fire Department and surrounding mutual aid departments, including South Berwick, North Berwick and Lebanon Maine, and Somersworth, Rochester and Dover New Hampshire.
"Firefighting, as a profession, is so unlike art that I am driven to resolve the differences. I have this great honor of servicing my community by exposing the dangers, emotions, brotherhood and resolve that go along with this service. I do not have the bravery or the physical capabilities that it takes to suffer through the dangers to assist others as these brave men and women do, but I do have just enough backbone to tag along and document and archive what they do so it can clearly be revisited and appreciated. I am choosing to follow and be inspired by these folks that are truly of a more humble and strong spine." - Erin Thomas
I am an artist, photographer and designer living in Southern Maine. As a fine artist for over 25 years, i have shown my work in numerous solo and group shows across the northeast and my original paintings and drawings are held in private collections around the world. My passion for photography started more recently after trading a painting for a camera with an art collector.
