About the Book
This is a photobook of a trip made to Cairo, Egypt, in February 2007. My friend Erlend Paasche spent a year there studying Arabic and Middle East Relations.
One week in Cairo - Al Qáhira - the victorious - brought a whole lot of tantalizing impressions to me, which will be with me for the rest of my life. I brought my camera to document it.
A very confusing, tremendously shocking and beautiful place. The eternal flow of the Nile, the masses of people, the poverty and the glitz of skyscrapers, belly dancing, camel market at Birquash, car accident and the insane traffic, the great conversations, sigars on the Nile, the Sfinx and the pyramids at Gizah, maze of al-Khalili market, Libanese food and bowling on a floating alley on the Nile - and all the interesting, studious, fascinating people I met and befriended.
