When on tour as a musician in Taipei, Taiwan, I became fascinated with the miniature scenes found in the mirrors of motorcycles, which are the favored mode of transportation in this city. The geometric shapes of the mirrors, their reflections, and the cityscapes surrounding them combine to create both intimate glimpses and surreal collages of modern life in Taipei.
Gloria Justen has worked as a classical violinist since 1985 with some of the best classical music ensembles in the world, including the San Francisco Symphony, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the Philip Glass Ensemble. She has produced CD of original music for solo violin, "Four-Stringed Voice, music for solo violin," which is available at www.cdbaby.com and iTunes. Since she was a child she has also been engaged in visual art and has experimented with photography, drawing, clothing design, fabric dyeing. Current visual/tactile art projects include making photo books, making prints on paper, and creating imaginative clothing.
