About the Book
In Mend, Sara Shields redefines traditional portraiture through her use of digital photography interlaced with digital drawing techniques. Her work takes viewers on a journey of her psyche as she aims to define what it truly means to “mend” through her series of images and illustrations. This book contains four mini-series, each with a new subject. Each section begins with her subjects embodying what it means to hurt, to break, to crave refuge in ones own skin. As viewers move through each of the subjects’ series they are left with images of healing, recovery, and a sense of solace after a time of suffering and despair.
