About the Book
This beautiful photo book is of the 2007 Jocko Lake Fire as seen through photographer Angie Kimmel's eyes and the lens of her camera.
The fire started in the mountains around the Jocko Lakes in western Montana about 10 miles from the resort community of Seeley Lake. The fire quickly flared up in high winds and eventually burned over 36,300 acres in just a matter of weeks. The only highway into the town was closed to non essential traffic and half the residents and most tourists were evacuated in the area surrounding Seeley Lake at the height of the tourist season. The Jocko Lake fire burned within 1 mile of the town will be remembered as the nations fastest growing wildfire ever, and the No. 1 wildfire fighting priority in August 2007.
Angie Kimmel a resident and professional photographer and her friend Becky Kyle journalized the fire progress, the efforts of the firefighters both on the ground, in the air, and in the fire camps. They captured the shock and dismay of the local residents and businesses and then gave back to the community by donating their time and photos. This book was long in the planning by Angie but she never had a chance to complete it before she passed away from a brain tumor in October 2016. Her friend Randi de Santa Anna finished the book as promised and it is released in time for the 10 year anniversary of the fire. Procedes from the sale of the 1st copy of the book will be donated back to the Seeley Lake Community Fire Department by Angie's family.
