    Retired U.S. Army Colonel Ben Skardon is the only survivor of the Bataan Death March who walks in the annual Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, N.M. This year, at the age of 99, he walked for the 10th time - a distance of 8.5 miles. Army photojournalist Sgt. Ken Scar has been documenting this extraordinary man for several years. This book covers Col. Skardon's walks in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 memorial march, as well as the production of a 60 Minutes feature and several other events.

    Currently a media relations director at Clemson University. I was a photojournalist for the U.S. Army from 2009 - 2017. I completed a one-year tour of Afghanistan in April, 2012, finished my active duty contract in October 2014, and then served in the Army Reserve for three years. I was named the 2013 Paul D. Savanuck Military Journalist of the Year, the highest award given in my job field in the Army. My photographs have been featured in dozens of local and national media outlets, including 60 Minutes, TIME, USA Today, NPR, Fox News, CNN, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, Stars and Stripes, the Department of Defense and many others.
