About the Book
Explore the rich history and heritage of India on this unforgettable trip with World Monuments Fund. Unrivaled in its beauty, India offers an incredible diversity of architecture, religions, customs, and cultural traditions. Our journey begins in Hyderabad, also known as the “The City of Pearls.” Until the 18th century, Hyderabad was the only global trade center for large diamonds, and today remains a shopping destination for pearls and gems. Exploring the Old City, we wander through vibrant markets and not-to- be-missed architectural sites, including WMF’s project at Osmania Women’s College. From Hyderabad we fly to the bustling city of Delhi. In Delhi we experience the captivating sights, smells, and sounds of the city, with visits to spice markets, an evening light show, and special tours of WMF projects. Then we travel to the state of Madhya Pradesh where WMF has worked with the local government to develop a sustainable management program for continued conservation and maintenance of the state’s heritage sites. Madhya Pradesh boasts three World Heritage Sites, spectacular mountain ranges, meandering rivers, and miles of dense forests. Here we visit the towns of Khajuraho and Orchha. The trip culminates in Agra, where we visit the Taj Mahal and explore WMF’s current work at two Mughal Gardens. On our final night we conclude WMF’s 50th Anniversary celebrations with a special evening in Agra.
