About the Book
It was while I was directing a play of Samuel Beckett´s that I became aware of the importance of shape and meaning.
It was this search that led me to my own personal obsessions.
I started off with a series of self-portraits in which my body was seen in relationship with another object....
I decided to set certain limits to the shot: using five seconds on the timer of the camera was a way of getting closer to the theatrical experience (the duration of the play) I didn’t use photo shop, nor tripod........ And so began an exploration that is still firing my imagination.
Of course I discovered on the journey that others had trodden similar ground eons ago (Duchamp and his “lobster-telephone) but it was no deterrent, on the contrary it strengthened my faith that I was in good company.
"Are we perhaps here only to say: house,
bridge, fountain, gate, jug, fruit-tree, window,
at most: pillar, tower...but to say them, you must understand,
oh to say them just so, and so much more intensely than the things themselves
ever hoped to be"
