A book of photographs of the shops and shopkeepers of West Yorkshire. Bob Clayden spent eight months talking to and photographing the shopkeepers and shops of Smawthorne and Agbrigg in Wakefield. This series of wonderfull images show the people and culture of the area. The shops are corner shops, a window on two streets, built into the structure of the local housing. These local shops now deal in a diverse selection of goods, the photos have recorded a slice of ordinary life in an extrodinary way. A briliant resource for the study of our way of life at the start of the 21st centuary

A series of engaging portraits showing the lives of different people at work, captured at the beginning of the 21st century. Who knew such diverse businesses took up residence in corner shops! The character of the individuals seem to jump out of the pictures. How many of the businesses portrayed are still in business? How many will continue to be so in this period of economic instability? A real glimpse of history in the making, illustrated with some really beautiful pictures.
