Click to preview a month in a day photo book

Over the course of September 2009, I photographed everyday. My original intent was to show how similar my days are...in a way it is true; I wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, go to work, see family or friends, go back to bed. Throughout the course of the month though, many activities and celebrations occurred that made that particular day even more special; a birthday, a license, wedding dress shopping, an opera. These small events are part of what make each day different and interesting. The book begins with a morning, any morning, and ends with a night, any night; in between is life, my life.

The photo book A Month in a Day by Emma Keleher is a fun interesting look at a day in the life of the author. The images from the day are taken over the course of one month but you wouldn’t be able to tell, they’re placed sequentially in the book from morning to evening and tell a single story. Some of the images are more broad in their narrative such as an image of a toothbrush and one of a bowl of cereal, while others are more specific like shopping for dresses and making brownies but they all fit together as a single day. I liked the concept of this book very much, it is like a day deconstructed and then put back together over the course of a month. It’s also interesting to think about how we really are such creatures of habit, there is so much in our day to day life that is done out of practice or social norms. I also liked how the images laid across the page, in small to large squares, showing more detail and prominence to the larger parts of the day. Overall I thought this was a really well executed book, there was obviously a lot of thought put into it from each individual image to the layout.
