Great Salt Lake is the largest salt lake in the western hemisphere, the fourth largest terminal lake and the thirty-seventh largest lake in the world. It's size fluctuates substantially, due to its shallowness. It average 1700 square miles, but in the past has been as small as 950 sq miles and as large as 3300 sq miles. It is the remnant of a much larger prehistoric lake called Lake Bonneville. The current Bonneville Salt Flats lie to the west of the lake, and Salt Lake City to the south and east.

These photos were taken in and near Salt Lake City between 2006 and 2008.
