Shades on White
paintings on paper

Life on Mars I hear was never as visually stimulating as many of the paintings in Mark Erickson's new book, 'Shades on White.'
This experimental colorful manipulated journey of paint on paper was actually started on the the first day of 2009 in a small studio in Mexico.
One could suggest that painting along the lower half of the Pacific Ocean might creep into paintings using water mediums as it's main source of
creation. One may be right. Here we find a whirlwind of images, twirling the eye and the viewer to remote, almost alien visions.
Mars indeed looks this way I fully believe. Pioneering unconventional mixtures of inks, paint and liquids, Mark's paintings are overflowing
in psychedelic reasonings. There are certain pieces one comes across, confronted like a mid-day hold-up that can be described as an actual visual seizure of paint.
Undaunted by all that came before, Mark paints with the intensity of a painter hunting for the truth he was told existed in paint by all the souls that came before marking their paths with color.
'Shades on White' offers another chapter in Mark Erickson's travels among the surf lanes of texture and pigment.
