My Friends - The Pyros
A Short Tribute In Words And Pictures
by John Cutliffe
About the Book
I decided to create this little book of memories for the people who have influenced me most in music over the years. Due to copyright law I can't use pictures of Gilbert O'Sullivan, The Bay City Rollers or Little Jimmy Osmond.
But in all honesty the people who influenced me most were the people I have played with down through the years. The best of them are in the Pyros.
So last year when we were about to have another reunion in Buncrana I wrote some blog posts about the 5 people who join me on stage every once in a while. They are my bandmates and family. They are great musicians, singers, songwriters, producers, artists and friends.
Here in words and pictures are those blogs for My Friends- The Pyros.
Note: The Steven Park books are made by my son, Kevin. I am from Buncrana in County Donegal, Ireland but now live in Suwanee GA. I grew up playing Irish traditional and bluegrass music in the many pubs that dot the Irish countryside and has played with many pop and rock bands over the years. During my wilder days in London my Irish bluegrass band the Pyros teamed up with Frank Tovey (AKA Fad Gadget) and recorded albums on the world famous Mute Records. Since then I have worked as a producer in Nashville, a musician all over the world and a tour manager for Irish traditional superstars, Altan. Now I have my own radio show on an Irish FM station, ICR FM in Donegal and podcast the archives of the show on the web. The show is called Across The Pond and I play music from traditional and contemporary artists from both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. I still play once in a while with my great friends in the Pyros and even at my age enjoy the thrill and adrenalin rush of being on stage
