Katherine Green’s 'Last Days at the Dogs' documents the final months of Walthamstow Stadium, London.

The book accompanies an exhibition at Vestry House Museum, London which is open until 29 November 2009.

Walthamstow Stadium opened in 1933 and closed on 16 August 2008. It was the best known and most loved of all the UK’s greyhound stadiums and was renowned internationally amongst both racing fans and tourists keen for a taste of traditional British life.

Green spent three months at the track documenting the architecture and décor of the building, as well as the staff and public who worked at and visited the track at all times of day and night. The resulting series of photographs evoke a real sense of community, continuity
and tradition.

Essay by Laura Thompson, 95 photo plates.

Thanks very much Brian, I'm so glad you like the book. It was a great book to do, and also incredibly sad. It really was a great community that was broken up.

I'm a Walthamstow Girl born and bred so 'The Stow' holds a very special place. Your photo book really captures the workings of the place and brings the sights and sounds flooding back to me.

Congrats on having the good sense and great eye to get down there and record the track before it closed! I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing for a special keepsack of Walthamstow's most famous landmark.

A great book with stunning photo's. We all miss the E17 dogs. I first went in 1985 at the age of 15 - a friend at school used to work there and let us sneak through the turnstiles. . my last visit was in 2008 with family and friends - a guaranteed good night out! Well done.

I lived in Walthamstow in 97. I am sorry I didn't get to the track. It looks like a palce with amazing textures both human and architectural. Nice work.
